Russell has been committed to the Tide since June 4th, after flipping from the SMU Mustangs, whom he pledged to in September of 2023.

On3's top prospect in Texas for the 2025 recruiting class will bring his rocket arm and freaky athleticism to the University of Alabama in January, where the 6 foot 3 182 pound Quarterback will be an early enrollee.

According to On3, Alabama's 5 Star quarterback signee is now listed as the top player in Texas and the second-best prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. Russell has completed 71.5% of his throws in his senior season, totaling 3,652 yards and 52 touchdowns with only two interceptions. Russel has also been productive on the ground, with the senior carrying for over 200 yards and two touchdowns.

Russell's On3 scouting report describes him as a "well-rounded, instinctive quarterback prospect with surgical passing ability, good athleticism, and a battle-tested resume." This evaluation is confirmed by his accomplishments, which include multiple state championships in Texas' top classification of high school football during his sophomore and junior seasons. According to the report, "his arm strength improved significantly as a senior, delivering passes with outstanding zip in the intermediate range." It underlines that Russell has "elite pocket presence, remaining unaffected by pressure and showing a willingness to step up and deliver precision throws in difficult situations." The scouting report also states that Russell is "one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the 2025 cycle."

Alabama's only quarterback commit in the 2025 recruiting class has led the Duncanville High School Panthers to back-to-back Texas 6A Division 1 State Championships in 2022 and 2023. He is now aiming for a third title, as the Panthers, led by Russell, prepare to face the Bridgeland Bears in the quarter-finals of the Texas 6A Division 1 State Playoffs this Friday night. In their previous match against The Woodlands Highlanders, Russell had an impressive performance, throwing for 440 yards and six touchdowns, which helped the Panthers secure a 42-20 victory in the second round of the playoffs.
