Alabama Adds Top Running Back to Stacked Recruiting Class
Christmas came early for bama fans on Wednesday when five star running back Camar Wheaton committed to the Crimson Tide over the Oklahoma Sooners.
The 5’ 11”, 190 lb prospect out of Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas is the nations second-ranked running back according to 247Sports. He is the seventh five-star to commit to the Crimson Tide in the 2021 recruiting class, the most of any class in the Saban era.
Alabama now extends their lead against Ohio State in the race for the highest ranked class of the year, totalling a score of 323.08 compared to Ohio State’s 310.39. With few prospects still left on the board for both schools, it’s likely the Crimson Tide are a lock for the crown of No. 1 recruiting class.
Even with the seven five-stars and 14 four-star recruits, the class still ranks behind the 2017 Alabama class by less than a point. If the Crimson Tide adds one more recruit, this will be the highest graded class in program history.
Alabama recruiters Charles Huff, Karl Scott, and Jeff Banks currently sit as the No. 1, No. 2 , and No. 3 recruiters in the country respectively. Wheaton is another testament to not only how well they have recruited this year, but how well they have recruited the state of Texas. With Wheaton’s commitment, the Crimson Tide have now poached the top-ranked running back, offensive tackle, wide receiver, inside linebacker, dual-threat quarterback, and offensive center from the lone star state.
Wheaton joins a stacked 2021 Alabama running back stable that is expected to feature Trey Sanders, Jase McClellan, Keilan Robinson, Roydell Williams and Kyle Edwards. Due to the COVID-19 NCAA eligibility ruling, seniors Najee Harris and Brian Robinson will have the option to come back for another year as well.
The Crimson Tide recruiting staff is still waiting on a few more prospects to make their college decision including offensive guard Jaeden Roberts from Houston, TX, safety Terrion Arnold from Tallahassee, FL, and defensive tackle J.T. Tuimoloau from Sammamish, WA.
