The Crimson Tide offense erupted for 13 runs on 17 hits to help Alabama baseball secure the 13-4 victory over Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon inside Swayze Field. With the win, Alabama avoids the sweep and improves to 23-20 on the season, 8-13 in conference play.

“I thought our team did a good job of taking care of business and focusing on what was in front of us,” said Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard. “We got off to a good start offensively, and we had real nice production throughout the lineup, one-through-nine. That offense really provided us the energy that we needed.”

Five of the Crimson Tide starters recorded double-digit hits in the game with eight of the nine recording at least one hit, RBI and run scored. Chance Vincent collected a team-high four hits on the day, while Mikey White and Georgie Salem each added three hits apiece. White reached base safely in all five plate appearances, finishing 3-for-3 with a double, a team-high three RBI and one run scored to go with his two walks.

The offense also received home runs from Casey Hughston and Will Haynie. Hughston finished the day 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. The two RBI came on his first-inning bomb to right that set the tone for the rest of the game. Haynie rounded out the Tide scoring with his solo shot in the top of the ninth. The Tide backstop also added a double to his 2-for-5 day with two RBI and two runs scored.

Alabama did not wait to score, bringing in four runs in the first frame of Sunday’s contest. The rally started with Chandler Avant being hit on the game’s first pitch. In the next at-bat, Salem knocked a single with Avant already on the move to put runners on the corners for White. The shortstop delivered with a double to right to bring across run number one of the day.

Two batters later, an infield groundout to first allowed the runners to move up and brought across the second run for the Tide. With a runner on third, Hughston stepped in and hit a bomb to right field to move the lead to 4-0 through one and chase the Ole Miss starter before the end of the first frame.

Ole Miss chipped away at the Tide lead in the second, leading off the inning with a single and then knocking a two-run home run to right to set the game at 4-2 through two full innings of play. Alabama would volley back with a run of its own in the fourth thanks to a sac fly by Avant to score Haynie, who led off the inning with a double down the line in right.

The Rebels brought one more across in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a solo homer that would make the game a two-run contest once again, this time at 5-3. Bouncing right back, the Tide put one more run up in the sixth. Vincent knocked a one-out single, his third hit of the day, and then tagged to second on an Avant flyout to right. The tag would prove key, as Salem’s single down the left field line in the next at-bat allowed Vincent to come around to score and push the Tide lead back to three.

Alabama blew the game wide open in the seventh, plating six runs on six hits. With one down, the hit parade began, as the Crimson Tide offense collected three consecutive singles. The third straight one was an RBI-knock by J.C. Wilhite that chased the Ole Miss reliever.

The new Rebel pitcher would only face three batters, striking out the first but then allowing two more singles. Vincent singled to left for his fourth hit of the day – scoring one – and then Avant followed with a two-RBI single through the left side to force another Ole Miss pitching change.

Salem would draw a walk against the fresh arm to load the bases for White and White delivered. He sent a single back up the middle to plate two and put runners on the corners. In the next at-bat, a wild pitch advanced both runners and brought across the sixth and final run of the inning to push the score to 12-3 heading to the stretch.

In the eighth, Ole Miss would plate its final run of the game on what looked to be an inning-ending double play, but the fielder’s choice putout allowed the Rebels one more heading to the ninth. Haynie led off the ninth with a solo shot deep to center to put the Tide ahead at 13-4, the eventual final.

Not to be overlooked was the solid start from Geoffrey Bramblett on his 20th birthday. The sophomore tossed 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out six Rebels on the way to his team-leading sixth win of the season.

“Geoffrey, as he’s done so far this season, gave us a good start in a critical game,” Gaspard commented about his starter. “He managed the game really well, and he did a good job responding after the two-run homer. We were able to keep adding runs for him, and he limited their offense to get us the win.”

Next up for Alabama is the first game of a six-game homestand at the Hoover Met. The Crimson Tide will welcome the Southern Miss Golden Eagles for a Tuesday contest. The two teams will face off at 6:30 p.m. CT on SECN+.
