Two Alabama Baseball Freshman Named Top-150 on Campus

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Rob Vaughn and the Crimson Tide reloaded their roster over the summer following their first College World Series appearance since 1999, adding a solid transfer portal class while being able to keep the large majority of their recruits from the high school ranks from going to the MLB.

A pair of those incoming freshmen earned a spot on D1Baseball and Prep Baseball's top 150 on-campus ranking, recognizing the top 150 freshmen who are joining college rosters this fall.

Right-handed pitcher Hudson DeVaughan appears first on the list for the Crimson Tide, coming in at No. 26. DeVaughan, a product of Mooresville High School in Mooresville, Ind., was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 19th round of the MLB draft in the summer. DeVaughan declined the Royals' offer, coming down south to enroll at Alabama.

DeVaughn features a deep pitch mix, throwing a four-seam that sits 93-95 mph with ride that creeps up to 98 mph, along with a two-seam and a cutter that both sit in the 89-91 mph range. DeVaughn also throws a strong curveball and slider, with a mid-80s changeup that he uses seldom.

With a six-foot-five frame, the right-hander can add more velocity on campus. DeVaughan will be a draft-eligible sophomore in 2028.

DeVaughan will likely compete for a spot in Alabama's weekend rotation this spring with the departures of both Tyler Fay and Zane Adams.

The other member of the Crimson Tide's freshman class on the list is Chandler Taylor, ranked No. 65.

Taylor, one of the top players out of Ohio in the 2026 cycle, told Prep Baseball after his commitment, "When I felt Alabama was the move to make, and I felt good about it, I called (head) coach (Rob) Vaughn. It was the best feeling in my life... I want to dominate and bring home a championship to Tuscaloosa."

Taylor shows natural athleticism from the outfield and first base while projecting to add significant power at Alabama.

Immediate impact from the Crimson Tide recruiting class will be a high priority as Alabama looks to make another trip back to Omaha.
