The Alabama baseball team will open the doors of the newly renovated Sewell-Thomas Stadium to fans this weekend for a trio of scrimmages on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The opening will provide the first opportunity for fans to watch the Crimson Tide in action in Tuscaloosa in over a year.

The Crimson Tide first opened the gates of The New Joe to media members on Wednesday afternoon, taking attendees on a tour of the facilities, led by Alabama Athletics Director Bill Battle and Tide head baseball coach Mitch Gaspard.

Friday will mark the first official full team practice of the spring, beginning at 2 p.m. and ending with an intrasquad scrimmage open to the public. Saturday’s practice and scrimmage session will begin at 10:30 a.m., and Sunday’s activities are scheduled to start at 12 p.m. CT.

This weekend will mark the first of three weekends of scrimmages leading up to the Friday, Feb. 19 season opener against Maryland. The weekend of Feb. 5-7 will be highlighted by Alabama baseball’s first ever Alumni Game on Saturday, Feb. 6, beginning just before noon. The final weekend will feature the team’s annual Fan Day, featuring autographs, introductions and a full scrimmage on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Tickets to be a part of the inaugural season at Sewell-Thomas Stadium are currently on sale and can be purchased online at, through or by calling 1-877-TIDETIX (843-3849). Fans can also purchase tickets in advance at the Alabama Ticket Office, located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, or on game day at one of the ticket windows surrounding the stadium.
