Alabama baseball’s Cobie Vance was selected as a Preseason First Team All-SEC honoree at second base, the league office announced on Thursday morning. The preseason recognition was the first of his career and the first by a member of the Crimson Tide since 2015.

The junior infielder has played in every game since coming to Tuscaloosa, starting all 112 contests at second base. Across his first two seasons, he has maintained a .275 (119-433) batting average and has registered 18 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 55 RBI to go with his 51 runs. Vance has also maintained an impressive .979 fielding percentage on the defensive side for the Crimson Tide.

In 2017, the Fayetteville, N.C., native led the SEC in double plays turned during the regular season with 40 and tied for ninth in the conference for assists with 144. He finished second on the Tide in batting average (.293) and hits with 61, while ranking third in RBI with 32. Vance wrapped up his sophomore campaign tied for the team lead in multi-hit games with 17 and added five multi-RBI contests to his totals.

Vance’s preseason league recognition is the first for the Crimson Tide since 2015, when second baseman Kyle Overstreet (First Team) and reliever Thomas Burrows (Second Team) were both tabbed to the all-conference squad.
