The Alabama football coaching staff named six players of the week following the Tide’s 50-17 non-conference victory over The Citadel at Bryant-Denny Stadium last Saturday. Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle on offense; Anfernee Jennings and Mack Wilson on defense; D.J. Lewis and Brian Robinson Jr. on special teams all earned the recognition for their play on Saturday.

Tagovailoa accounted for 377 yards of total offense and four touchdowns by day’s end. The sophomore completed 18-of-22 passes for 340 yards and three scores to set his season total at 31, earning him the Alabama single-season passing touchdown record through just 11 games. He added four rushes for 37 yards and a score on the ground before exiting after the third quarter. Waddle tied for the team lead in receptions with six totaling 90 yards. The freshman wideout added two touchdowns on the day and converted a Tide first down or score on five of his season-high six catches.

The Tide defensive unit was led by Jennings, with the redshirt junior accumulating a career-high 11 tackles on the day, including one for loss (-1 yard). He added a fumble recovery, taking the loose ball 18 yards into the end zone for an Alabama touchdown. Wilson ranked second in stops behind Jennings, with the junior finishing at nine totals tackles on the day.

Lewis, a senior, continued to impress on special teams, helping hold the Bulldogs to only two kick returns. Robinson Jr. returned one kickoff for 12 yards to put the Tide near midfield late in the fourth quarter. The sophomore would then capitalize on his good start to the drive, taking in the ball in for a touchdown from two yards out for Alabama’s final score of the day.
