Alabama Coaching Staff Recognizes 11 Players of the Week following Mississippi State
The Alabama coaching staff recognized 11 players following the Crimson Tide’s 51-3 win over Mississippi State at Bryant-Denny Stadium last Saturday. Bradley Bozeman, O.J. Howard, Jalen Hurts and Jonah Williams on offense, Ryan Anderson, Da’Ron Payne and Dalvin Tomlinson on defense, and Adam Griffith, Keith Holcombe, JK Scott and Levi Wallace on special teams were recognized on Monday.
Hurts had a record day against the Bulldogs, becoming the first quarterback in Alabama history to throw for 300 yards (347) and rush for 100 yards (100) in the same game. The freshman quarterback accounted for 447 yards of total offense, which ranks as third-best in school history. Howard caught six passes for a season-high 77 yards. He averaged 12.8 yards per catch with four of his six catches going for a first down. The offensive line duo of Bozeman and Williams cleared a path for 218 rushing yards, and helped Alabama average 7.0 yards per carry. Bozeman posted a season-high grade of 91 percent a did not allow a quarterback hurry, a sack or commit a penalty.
The trio of Anderson, Payne and Tomlinson were key to the Tide defense limiting Mississippi State to no touchdowns and just three points. Anderson recorded four tackles, including two tackles for loss (-12 yards) and a sack for a loss of 10 yards. Payne accounted for five tackles and one of the Crimson Tide’s 12 quarterback hurries. Tomlinson finished with a team-high tying six total tackles for the second straight game and added one quarterback hurry.
Griffith finished his day with five made extra points and a season-high three field goals, scoring 14 points. He kicked off eight times for an average of 64.2 yards per kick with four going for a touchback. JK Scott punted three times for 154 yards averaging 51.3 yards per punt, with a long of 62 yards. Holcombe and Wallace helped limit the Bulldogs to just 10 yards in the punt return game. Holcombe was in on two stops on kickoff coverage while Wallace recorded one of high career-high three stops on punt team.
