Alabama Community Mourns Death of Former Baseball Player
The Alabama baseball team traveled to Tigerville, SC to pay tribute to former teammate, Davis Heller. Alabama softball head coach Patrick Murphy also made the trip to Davis' celebration of life.
According to Alabama football life coach, Dr. Gary Cramer, the team traveled overnight to South Carolina to "grieve and comfort a former player's family."
The Arizona native played first base for the Crimson Tide during the 2021-2022 seasons. Heller transferred to North Greenville University following the end of the last season.
Heller passed away at his off-campus apartment on Oct. 5 from what officials said were "natural causes."
His family founded the Davis Heller Memorial Foundation in his name and is awarding scholarships to players who "value the importance in bettering themselves and their teammates on and off the field," according to the foundation's website.
The family gave the first ever Davis Heller award to North Greenville pitcher, Noah Takac, at an NGU baseball banquet in early November. The scholarship granted to Takac was worth $5000.
