The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the fourth ranked Auburn Tigers in Coleman Coliseum tonight 83-64. It was the first loss of the season for the previously 15-0 Auburn Tigers. The win propels Alabama to 9-7, 2-2 in SEC play. The Tide is now tied for sixth in the SEC only four games into the conference schedule.

Alabama was led on the score sheet by Kira Lewis Jr. with 25 points, he was helped by Herb Jones with 14, Alex Reese with 13 and James Bolden who had 11. Jones ended with a double-double as he accumulated 12 rebounds as well. The Tide’s leading scorer on the season John Petty Jr. was held to just seven points but the Tide still prevailed and matched its season average of points with 83.

The Crimson Tide took a 36-27 lead into the locker room thanks in part to 12 Auburn turnovers and forcing the Tigers to just 31% shooting from the floor. Despite a 12-3 run coming out of the second half to cut the Tide’s lead to 50-47 but Auburn was unable to capture the lead and ultimately lost to Nate Oats’s Crimson Tide.

Alabama shot 42% from the field in the game and 78% from the free throw line, edging the Tigers in both categories to seal the victory. The win was Alabama’s first over a top five team since 2017 when the Tide defeated number five Texas A&M   79-57. Alabama has now won seven of its last 10 contests and will host Missouri (9-7, 1-3) on Saturday, January 18 in its next game.
