Alabama Defensive Back Finds New SEC School
Former Alabama corner, Brandon Turnage announced his new school over the weekend. Turnage, a member of the 2019 Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting class, entered the transfer portal at the beginning of the month after spring practice concluded. The former 4-star recruit has decided to take his talents to Athens, GA. and will join the Georgia Bulldogs.
Kirby Smart runs the same defensive scheme as Nick Saban making Turnage's transition to Georgia a little easier on the football field. Turnage was listed as a safety on Alabama's roster but will likely play corner for the Bulldogs.
The 6-foot-1 corner from Lafayette, Miss. has appeared in four games for the Crimson Tide in two seasons on the roster. He has one pass breakup to his name in the 2020 contest against Mississippi State.
He is the second corner to leave the Capstone this season by way of the transfer portal, following Ronald Williams who chose to transfer to Michigan State.
Turnage faces high competition in the defensive backfield for playing time at Georgia. The Bulldogs expect Jalen Kimber and Ameer Speed to be its top two corners with Kelee Ringo, Nyland Green and Lovasea Carroll also vying for playing time.
Turnage seeks to take advantage of the new NCAA transfer portal rule allowing athletes to transfer to a new school without losing a year of eligibility by sitting out. It is unclear if the SEC will allow Turnage immediate eligibility having transferred inside the conference but speculation is that the conference will adopt the NCAA's rules without restriction.
