University of Alabama women's golfer Benedetta Moresco will compete in the Augusta National Women's Amateur tournament this week.

The tournament was announced in 2018 with its aim to inspire greater interest in the women's game.

Moresco will be part of a tournament field that includes 72 of the top female amateur golfers from around the world. The sophomore from Caldogno, Italy is currently ranked No. 19 in the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).

Moresco had a strong first season at Alabama. She earned the 2021 SEC Freshman of the Year honor. She was also named to the 2021 First-Team All SEC and to the SEC 2021 All-Freshman team.

She finished inside the top ten of four tournaments last year and placed within the top five in two of those four. Her best finish was tied for third in the Gamecock Intercollegiate.

Moresco is currently averaging a 70.80 score through eight tournaments and 23 rounds in the 2021-22 Alabama women's golf season, which included four fall tournaments and four spring tournaments.

The first and second rounds of the Augusta National Women's Amateur are scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday of this week at Champions Golf Retreat Club. The final round will take place this Saturday, April 2, at the Augusta National Golf Club.

Moresco's slated tee time is just after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. She will play alongside South Carolina freshman Hannah Darling who is ranked No. 11 in the WAGR. Joining these two will be Latanna Stone, a junior at LSU who is ranked No. 36 in the WAGR.
