Alabama graduate Shannon Shorr outlasted more than 7,800 poker players in the World Series of Poker Main Event but finished just short of the prestigious final table.

Shorr's deep run came to an end on Tuesday night when his A-J came up against pocket aces on day 6 of the tournament, but he exited in 39th place with a payout of $189,165. It marked the seventh-highest payout of his 12-year professional poker career.

"Obviously pretty disappointed right now but I'm definitely super happy about the run, pretty happy with how I played," Shorr said on Instagram after his departure.

Despite never winning a WSOP bracelet, Shorr has amassed more than $6 million in career earnings since his 2nd place finish in the Aussie Millions back in 2006. It wasn't the finish he hoped for in Las Vegas, but it capped off a successful summer.
