Thursday afternoon the University of Alabama announced via social media the Crimson Tide football team will take on the Mercer Bears in the home opener at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne said earlier this year the plan and hope is to have Bryant-Denny Stadium at full capacity this Fall, though nothing has been confirmed just yet. Alabama will play its season opener against Miami in Atlanta at full capacity.

With the announcement of of the home opener, the Crimson Tide's first three games of the 2021 season have a time and channel.

This will be the fourth time Alabama has played Mercer. The most recent meeting was in 2017, a 56-0 victory for the Crimson Tide.

As for the network side, Alabama's game with Mercer is one of 10 games the SEC Network will host within the first three weeks of the season. The announcement of the game also narrows down which game Alabama will play on ESPN+ to either Southern Miss (Sept. 25) or New Mexico State (Nov. 13).
