Alabama Men’s Basketball Holds End-of-Season Team Banquet
One week after introducing the hiring of its new head coach, Alabama men's basketball had more to celebrate Thursday night at Coleman Coliseum.
The program held its annual team banquet to recognize player accomplishments from its 2014-15 season. Overall, the team handed out six different awards, one with two winners.
Former assistant coach Reggie Witherspoon gave a speech at the event on behalf of last season's staff. Witherspoon, who came to Alabama last spring, was a member of former head coach Anthony Grant's staff. Grant was fired on March 15 but has since taken an assistant coaching job with Florida, a position he previously held for 10 seasons from 1996-2006.
Last season's associate head coach John Brannen, who also served as interim head coach following Grant's dismissal, was hired as Northern Kentucky's new head coach last week.
Avery Johnson, who was hired last week as the program's new head coach, and Antoine Pettway, a longtime Crimson Tide assistant, were also in attendance. Pettway will return next season as a member of Johnson's staff next season. He handed out the awards Thursday.
The Crimson Tide went 19-15 (8-10 Southeastern Conference) this past season, ending the year with a 73-66 loss in the NIT quarterfinals at Miami (FL) on March 21.
