Alabama Put on a Hitting Clinic Saturday Afternoon

Alabama baseball dominated the Binghamton Bearcats Saturday afternoon 14-2. Alabama ended the game with 14 hits, 14 RBIs, and two home runs.

The Crimson Tide's first four at-bats were all hits with Jim Jarvis leading the team off with a triple, followed by Tommy Seidl's RBI single, Zane Denton's single, and capped off with Drew Williamson's 3-run homerun. Seidl stole second base while Denton was at the plate.

The Tide scored one more run in the bottom of the second inning when Eric Foggo hit the second homerun of the game.

Second-baseman Caden Rose reaggravated an injury running to first base in the bottom of the third. He didn't play the rest of the game. Head coach Brad Bohannon said Rose has been dealing with a hamstring injury the past few weeks.

Alabama's starting pitcher, Antoine Jean, had a stellar day for the Tide as he had four strikeouts and only faced 23 batters in six innings pitched.  Bohannon said that getting Jean's pitch count up and improving his consistency before league play was important.

"Antoine was really sharp," Bohannon said. "He did a good job of commanding it (the ball) today."

Jean was on the bench for a while during the bottom of the fourth inning because the Crimson Tide offense was on fire swinging the bats. Bohannon said it wasn't ideal for him to sit that long but was good that their offense finally got something going.

In the bottom of the fourth, Tommy Seidl hit a single and advanced to third on a pitching error. Denton was walked following the steal which brought Williamson up to the plate with two runners on base. He hit a double which allowed Seidl to score.

The Tide wasn't done yet, however. They would face two more pitchers in the bottom of the fourth and scored six more runs. Alabama went through their batting lineup 1.5 times before the Bearcats finally got out number three.

Alabama led 14-1 going into the fifth inning. Their offense stalled out after that, not scoring another run the rest of the game.

The big lead allowed the Tide to build some depth getting more players game experience which will help them moving into conference play next weekend. Alabama used three different pitchers for the last three innings while also moving the infield around in the sixth inning.

The Bearcat's second run was a homerun in the ninth inning.

Alabama ends the Binghamton series Sunday at 1 p.m.  The Tide returns to the Joe Friday to open up conference play against Florida.
