Bama 5-Star RB Commit Suspended For Season Opener Against Saraland
Alabama’s class of 2026 five-star recruit Ezavier “EJ” Crowell has been suspended from Jackson’s season opener against Saraland this upcoming Friday.

Crowell's head coach, Cody Floury, confirmed his suspension to AL.com after a report from WKRG TV’s Simone Eli stated that he would miss Jackson’s season opener due to violating the AHSAA’s amateurism bylaws. Eli noted that the Central Board of Control has accepted the self-imposed ruling on Wednesday, with the five-star running back expected to be back in action for Jackson’s week two matchup against Demopolis.
According to the report, Jackson High School notified the AHSAA that the No. 2-ranked running back in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports composite rankings, had accepted a gift that has since been returned.
The AHSAA’s amateur rule states: SECTION 8. Only amateurs are eligible. An amateur does not use his/her knowledge of athletics or athletic skill for gain. Amateur standing shall be further determined by the following standards: (a) A student is ineligible if he/she has received money as a prize, or has sold a prize received in a contest, or has bet on a contest in which he/ she is a participant. (b) Professionalism is defined as accepting remuneration, directly or indirectly, for playing on athletic teams and in sports activities or for playing under an assumed name. (c) A student who accepts material or financial inducement from any source is ineligible.
The five-star prospect originally was part of the 2027 class before reclassifying in January after a breakout sophomore season. Crowell rushed for 130.9 yards per game while scoring 33 total touchdowns en route to leading Jackson to a state championship victory. After a fantastic performance in the AHSAA 4A State Championship game, Crowell had 12 carries for 140 yards to accompany his three touchdowns.
Crowell will look to pick up where he left off last season on the road in the Aggies’ week two matchup against Demopolis next Friday.
