The dominoes continue to fall in Tuscaloosa, as freshman sensation Caleb Downs has opted to enter the transfer portal following the retirement of former head coach Nick Saban and the departure of secondary coach Travaris Robinson for Georgia..

Downs will have three years of eligibility left wherever he decides to go.

Downs is heavily linked to Georgia, especially with former Alabama defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson now in a co-defensive coordinator role at Georgia. Downs is also linked to Ohio State who finished second in his recruitment out of Mill Creek High School.

The true freshman was phenomenal throughout 14 games this season, racking up a team-leading 107 tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

Downs's departure is a massive blow for the incoming staff, forcing new Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack to completely rebuild the secondary, as four out of five starters last season have left the program, the only returnee being Malachi Moore.

Alabama also has taken huge hits in its secondary depth, losing cornerbacks Trey Amos and Dezz Ricks to the transfer portal.
