The Alabama women's basketball team signed Essence Cody, arguably one of the best players in the 2023 class, last week.

The Valdosta, Ga. native was honored by her hometown with a billboard, celebrating her signing with the Crimson Tide. Cody's current high school head coach, E.A. Wilcox, made a post on social media highlighting this.

The 6-foot-4 forward is currently slotted as a five-star prospect and the No. 22 player overall in the class of 2023 by ESPNW.

Cody has competed on the national stage at the 2022 US Trials, the BallN Across Borders (2019 and 2021), and the 2022 Under Armour Elite 24, where she was named MVP.

At Valdosta High School, Cody has been a force in the state of Georgia, earning the 2022 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association MVP and 2021-22 Player of the Year. Cody has also played in the AAU ranks with FBC United.

Other signees from the 2023 class include Naomi Jones and Reychel Douglas.
