The Alabama women’s basketball team landed another huge pick up this week as Illinois transfer, Aaliyah Nye, announced her commitment to the Tide on Thursday.

“I would like to thank Illinois for the many opportunities and support throughout my 2 years here," said Nye. "Now it’s time to take the next step in a chapter of my life…..ROLL TIDE."

Nye, a 5-foot-11 guard from East Lansing, Michigan and played two seasons at Illinois where she started a total of 35 games in 45 appearances.

In high school, Nye earned 2020 Ms. Basketball runner-up, AP Division 1 Player of the year, first-team All-Michigan honors, and Lansing State Journal 2020 Player of the Year.

In her freshman year at Illinois, Nye averaged 23.0 minutes, 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. Nye suffered a broken toe causing her to miss five games, but she ended the season starting the last ten games. She led the team in three-point shooting (.351) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.38).

This past season, Nye started 25-of-27 games averaging 29.6 minutes, 12.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. She led the team in scoring, minutes, and three-point field goals made. Nye was tabbed as an All-Big Ten honorable mention performer.

Nye is the third transfer to commit to the Tide this week after Sarah Ashlee Barker and Ryan Cobbins announced their commitments earlier in the week. The Tide adds depth to a team that is already set to return all five starters from last season.
