Alabama head coach, Kristy Curry, along with players Brittany Davis and Sarah Ashlee Barker sat down to talk with the media before practice started.

“We’re really excited that the first day of practice is here,” said Curry. “I think we’ve had a phenomenal summer and a phenomenal fall… now we’re into real practice time and honestly as coaches and players this is the most favorite day of the year for us so we’re excited to get to work and be able to stay consistent.”

The Alabama women’s basketball team had a great end of the 2021-22 season, winning nine of the last 13 games, including two SEC tournament wins and a WNIT Elite Eight run. Curry looks to build on this momentum and bring it into the upcoming season.

“We are much improved from where we sat a year ago at this moment having lost 78 percent of our scoring and now returning the complete opposite of 80 percent and then you look at the new pieces that we’ve added from the versatility and the depth of our team,” said Curry. “We’re completely in a position to return to the NCAA Tournament, go deep into the tournament and compete for an SEC championship.”

One of those new pieces is the Georgia transfer and Spain Park graduate, Sarah Ashlee Barker.

“It’s amazing, she [Curry] gave me a chance to come back and play for my home state… just being able to represent the front of my jersey, Alabama, and just play my heart out and just do what our team needs,” said Barker.

A key returnee for the Crimson Tide is the leading scorer from last year’s squad and 2021-22 All-SEC Second Team performer, Brittany Davis.

“I think we’ll be a whole lot better and the expectations for myself is to just go hard every day,” said Davis.

The Crimson Tide starts the season on Nov. 7, facing off against Alabama A&M in Coleman Coliseum.
