Another Will Reichard Miss Proves Costly for Alabama
Will Reichard struggled last week for the Crimson Tide, missing two big kicks against Texas A&M that would have increased Alabama’s lead against the Aggies.
On Saturday night, the senior missed wide right on a 50-yard field goal that would have given Alabama the lead late in the fourth quarter, but instead led to a Tennessee game-winning drive ending in a field goal. Reichard’s career-long is 52 yards.
Reichard did sink two field goals in the second quarter, the first from 21 yards and the second from 43 yards. The last kick proved to be the most important, but could not connect on it.
Reichard’s struggles are rather unconventional, considering he is one of the more reliable performers each week for the Tide. However, he is just 3-7 in his past three games spanning back to Alabama’s matchup against Arkansas.
This Alabama team has its fair share of areas to improve on after the loss to Tennessee and it appears that the kicking team isn’t exempt from improvement. Special teams has never been the Tide’s dominant strength under head coach Nick Saban, but it will be interesting to see how the kicking team and Reichard move on from some tough misses into the coming weeks of SEC play.
