Go ahead and settle in for months of speculation and hype surrounding Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. With the offseason upon us, there will be little college football news to discuss until SEC Media Days in July.

That's why we'll be reading a lot of different projections and all kinds of lists between now and then. Among those are positional rankings for every conference in the country, but we'll fill the void with whatever we can get until the season arrives.

Earlier this week, Athlon Sports published its quarterback rankings for the conference and they are all-in on the Tua Tagovailoa hype train. The publication ranked him No. 1 despite zero career starts and no guarantee of a starting job this fall.

From the story:

Yes, ranking Tagovailoa is a projection and requires the sophomore holding off Jalen Hurts for the starting job. And sure, he’s got some developing to do and has to prove the second-half performance against Georgia can be counted on for a full year. However, it’s no secret Tagovailoa – a five-star prospect and the No. 32 overall player in the 2017 247Sports Composite – might be the most-talented quarterback signed by Nick Saban since arriving in Tuscaloosa in 2007. In nine games last year, Tagovailoa threw for 636 yards and 11 touchdowns on 49 completions and added 133 yards and two scores on the ground. The Hawaii native has all of the talent needed to rank among the nation’s best at quarterback by the end of 2018. How soon will he reach his potential under new coordinator Mike Locksley and quarterbacks coach Dan Enos?

There are plenty of people that would agree with Athlon along with a fair share of naysayers. So former Alabama fullback Martin Houston decided to weigh in on the debate and share his opinion on these rankings and how he views the position for 2018.

Listen to the discussion below and tell us who you think will be No. 1 next season.
