Bama Softball Gets Win Over UNA in Game 1 of Double Header

Alabam softball won the first game of its Tuesday doubleheader against the University of North Alabama by a score of 6-1. Freshman pitcher Jaala Torrence got the start in the circle for the Crimson Tide and held the 15 batters she faced through four innings to just one hit while recording two strikeouts.

The Tide got out to a hot start in the first two innings. With Aubrey Barnhart and Ally shipman on base in the bottom of the first, Megan Bloodworth cranked a three-run home run into the scoreboard. Leading off the second inning, freshman Kali Heivilin knocked one over the centerfield wall for her first career home run. At that point, the Lions pulled starting pitcher Elena Escobar in favor of Megan Warhurst.

Shipman then batted in Ashley Prange to make the score five to nothing. Then, with one out and runners on 2^nd and 3^rd, Bloodworth flew out to right field, but Barnhart managed to tag up and make it home for the Tide’s sixth and final run of the day.

Lexi Kilfoyl replaced Torrence in the circle at the top of the 5^th inning. Kilfoyl faced 12 batters and gave up three hits and the Lions’ only run. The run came after Maleah Hargett recorded a double and advanced to third base on a wild pitch before being batted in by Haven Kirby.

The Tide improved their record to 37-6 and will square off against Alcorn state within half an hour of the victory over UNA. After that, they resume conference play with a series against Texas A&M in College Station.
