The Iron Bowl of softball went less than ideal for Alabama as they lost the third game of the series 1-3. After a weather delay on Friday, the Crimson Tide only won the first of the three matches.

Ace Montana Fouts started on the mound for the Tide opposite Auburn pitcher Maddie Penta. The beginning of the game was defined by the defense and skill of the pitchers, as neither team could score in the first two innings.

The Tigers opened up the scoring at the top of the third inning. Carlee McCondichie snuck a ball inside the right field post, just over the fence, to put Auburn up 1-0. Alabama responded to the homer an inning later at the bottom of the fourth inning. Jenna Johnson was batted in from a Bailey Dowling ground out to tie the game, 1-1.

Jenna Johnson and Kenleigh Cahalan were seemingly the only players to have any action while batting. Both had two hits. Cahalan was also able to steal a base later in the game. Johnson points out that the offense has to do better and can.

"We've got to stay present in the moment and stick to our plan," Johnson said. "So we had something we were looking to attack, and we did that most of the time, but we gotta do better all the way throughout the lineup, and I've got to be more consistent at that, too, so that's what we're going to work on. She is a great pitcher, but I think we have the offense to beat pitchers like that."

At the top of the sixth inning, with two outs, Auburn batted in the game's final two runs, 3-1. Alabama gained chances to score with both Johnson and Cahalan on base but found no way to bring them in.

The Tide had one more opportunity to tie or win the game at the bottom of the seventh. Lauren Esman got on base first due to a walk, giving Alabama a glimmer of hope. Kali Heivilin also got on base as the outfielder dropped the ball to center field. With two runners on and two outs, Johnson stepped up to the plate to try and win the game for the Tide. While she made a valiant effort, a ground out sealed the team's fate. Auburn won the game 3-1 and the series 2-1.

The Crimson Tide's regular season is nearing its end. The team has only two series left in the regular season. The next series is against LSU at the Rhoads House. That series starts Friday, April 29.
