Zabien Brown and Ryan Coleman-Williams talk captain aspirations

Every year, four young men are chosen to lead the Alabama Crimson Tide as team captains. When the season is done, those four individuals have their hands and cleat prints stamped into the cement surrounding Denny Chimes on the quad at the University of Alabama campus. Captains of the 2025 roster include quarterback Ty Simpson, center Parker Brailsford, linebacker Deontae Lawson, and defensive lineman Tim Keenan.

The four team captains of the 2026 squad have yet to be announced, but several of the Alabama players here in Tamps have discussed the possibility of being one of those four. Earlier on Wednesday, Coleman-Williams was asked about his personal goals for the 2026 season; being a team captain was his only answer, saying, “One of the biggest things for me has always been being a team captain for my squad. So, I think that it just allows me an extra opportunity to play with an extra chip on my shoulder.” Coleman-Williams, despite being just 19 years old, will be the veteran of not only the wide receiver room, but the entire offense when week one rolls around.

He will be one of just five players on the offensive side of the ball that have been on the roster since the arrival of head coach Kalen DeBoer and yet again will be the highlight of what Alabama hopes to be an explosive offense. As for the other member of the Crimson Tide asked about being a captain, Zabien Brown is more focused on doing whatever it takes to make the team better.

“Absolutely, that would be a blessing if that does happen, but as of right now I’m just focused on how I can make my team better, how I can make myself better, and how we can better each other.”

These are two of the best in the country when it comes to making plays on the football, regardless of which side of the ball they play on.
