Bryce Young Continues to Impress This Spring

With less than one week until A-Day, Bryce Young continues to cement his status as QB1 this season.

Alabama held its second spring scrimmage Saturday afternoon. Young tossed three touchdown passes, one to Cameron Latu, Javon Baker and Jahleel Billingsley. Bringing his total to seven in the Tide’s two scrimmages. Coach Saban talked about Young’s development and growth in the offense this spring.

“He’s done great,” Saban said. “He knows the playbook really, really well. I told him one of the things that he has to work on is having a presence on the field, being "the man", so to speak, taking charge, being in command, and I think that he’s done better and better at that. I think he realizes what he needs to do to try to help the players around him to play better. And I think he’s done it very well."

The California native came to Tuscaloosa after a stellar career at Mater Dei high school. 247Sports ranked Young as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 2 player overall in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He finished his career with 13,250 passing yards and accounted for 178 total touchdowns.

Young spent 2020 season as the backup to Mac Jones. The Davey O’Brien Award winner threw for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns last season and guided the Crimson Tide to their 18th national championship.

He would appear in nine games of an all SEC schedule but attempted just 22 passes and threw one touchdown.

Senior running back Brian Robinson Jr. also spoke about Young's development last week.

“Bryce has definitely stepped into his shoes, “said Robinson. He accepted the fact that being a quarterback he has to be one of the most vocal guys on the offensive side of the ball. He’s been doing a great job with that. Just me being beside him, I just try to make sure that he’s understanding everything that’s going on around him.”

Alabama will be back on the practice field on April 13th.
