Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley has applied for reinstatement following his year-long suspension for betting on games. Being that today is the first day of the NFL new year, Ridley became eligible to apply for reinstatement this morning, and he wasted no time doing so.

The former Alabama wideout spent his first four years in the league with the Atlanta Falcons, who drafted him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Ridley was named on the NFL’s 2nd team All-Pro list following his breakout 2020 season where he recorded 90 receptions for 1,374 yards and ten total touchdowns.

After playing just five regular season games in 2021, Ridley announced via his social media that he’d be taking some time off to work on his mental health. Then, in March of 2022, the NFL announced that it was suspending Ridley for the entire 2022 season for betting on games. The NFL found that Ridley had placed six total wagers in November of 2021, all of which were on or included the Falcons winning.

During the 2022 NFL trade deadline, the Jaguars acquired Ridley via a trade with the Falcons which sent a 2023 fifth-round pick to Atlanta along with a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick which could turn into a 2024 second-rounder if Jacksonville decides to give Ridley an extension.

If reinstated, Ridley will join a dangerous offense in Jacksonville headlined by former No.1 overall pick, Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars were able to make it to the Divisional Round of the playoffs this year after winning their first AFC South title since 2017. With the addition of Ridley to an already powerful, young offense, Jacksonville is poised to be a dangerous force in the AFC for years to come.
