Central Falcons celebrate homecoming night with win over Brookwood Panthers

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Week two of high school football was underway at Falcon Field as the Central Falcons (2-0) hosted the Brookwood Panthers (1-0) for homecoming night. This game was heavily dominated from start to finish, with a 49-24 win for the Falcons in the team's first regional matchup.

The Panthers started off with the ball led by quarterback Jamarcus Jackson, whose presence was felt as he lofted up a touchdown from 35 yards to Westley Patton as the Panthers struck first. It wasn't long after when Armani White found Jarvis Woods, who made players miss, and tied it with a 63-yard touchdown reception. The next drive, the Panthers would fumble on their own 15-yard line. Central capitalized, and Tra'Von Hall got the 11-yard rushing touchdown to put the Falcons up 14-7 heading into the 2nd quarter.

Jackson, taking matters into his own hands, rushed for 58 yards all the way to the end zone, tying the game at 14.

"Honestly man, he kind of kept me up all week," Demario Pippen, head coach of Central, said about Jackson's game. "Just watching him on his tape, man, the kid is special, and you can see he has been holding their offense down by himself. He's a threat anytime he touches the ball."

He wasn't the only threat on the field, as White threw a haymaker of his own on the following drive, finding Woods again this time from 65 yards out to put the Falcons up 21-14. The Panthers on the kickoff looked to respond but fumbled again inside their 20-yard line, putting the Falcons back in scoring position. After taking a tackle for loss, Anthony Dixon ripped one from 23 yards to the end zone as the Falcons went up two scores.

On the following drive, Jackson looked to put the Panthers back in it but would settle for a 38-yard field goal made by Colton Randolph. The Falcons, showing no sign of slowing down, converted on 4th and 5 to put Freeman in position to get a touchdown. Right before half, Dixon blew open a 60-yard rush, getting all the way to the one-yard line where Nathan Richardson would find the end zone, giving the Falcons a 49-17 lead heading into half.

Central scored on 7 of 8 offensive drives in the first half, and Coach Pippen said it's just about putting the ball in the right players' hands.

"The biggest thing is just getting our playmakers the ball," he said. "When you got guys like Tra'Von Hall, Jarvis Woods, Anthony Dixon, James Freeman, it's not hard, you know. You just get those guys the ball and let them do what they do."

In the second half, both teams pulled their respective starters, but that didn't stop Griffin Killian from getting his first passing touchdown of the day by putting the ball in the hands of Collin Baker, who made some moves and found the end zone 28 yards out. With a running clock, the Panthers' comeback was very unlikely, and the Falcons would take the 49-24 win.

Central improved to 3-0 on the season, getting its first regional win over Brookwood. The Falcons travel for the first time this season to play Hillcrest (3-0) after their huge victory over Hueytown, 63-7.

Brookwood fell to 1-1 after the loss. Next week, the Panthers host Northridge for a regional game between two teams that are coming off a loss.
