Since Bryce Young was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick by the Carolina Panthers, it seems to be an interesting mystery on who will be the starting quarterback for the Tide this season.

Jalen Milroe had one start last season against Texas A&M where he had three passing touchdowns, one interception, and one lost fumble. Milroe also rushed for 81 yards, giving the Tide some rushing depth. He had improved this offseason to hopefully win the starting QB job.

Ty Simpson and Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner could shake the depth chart, however. Simpson had a better rushing performance than Milroe in the A-Day game, as well as having a more popular vote with Bama fans on the starting quarterback role. Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees also has a strong relationship with Buchner. If Rees can further develop Buchner properly, there could be a shake-up in the quarterback room.

Meanwhile on The Plains, Oregon transfer Robby Ashford is coming off his first season with the Tigers. Last season in the Iron Bowl, Ashford recorded a touchdown pass and two rushing scores in his best game yet in his college career. His performance that game could have Tiger fans believe that he could improve to be a star for Auburn football in 2023.

Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne, however, could change that. Thorne is coming off last season with 19 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a rushing score. In 2021, he led the Spartans to an 11-2 record, nearly securing them a playoff spot. If he stays consistent in practice this summer, he might have a chance to take down the Tide in the Iron Bowl this year.

It's also safe not to rule out former 4-star Holden Geriner. Geriner played one game for Auburn last season against Missouri, but only for a few snaps when Ashford was recovering from a minor finger injury he suffered from making a block. Geriner had always impressed coaches since he landed on The Plains and could make an impact on Auburn football this season.

Regardless of who starts for each team, this year's Iron Bowl will be a thriller to watch.
