Could Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien be out the door soon?
According to College Football Senior Writer for ESPN Pete Thamel, the Alabama staffer is a candidate for the newest open head coaching position.
"Names for Georgia Tech coaching job: Jamey Chadwell, Bill O’Brien, Jeff Monken, Troy Calhoun, Bill Clark, Bronco Mendenhall, Todd Monken, Charles Huff, Sean Lewis, Al Golden, Bryan McClendon, Dell McGee, Thomas Brown, Alex Grinch, Kane Wommack, Brent Key and George Godsey," tweeted Thamel.
Georgia Tech fired head coach and former Alabama staffer Geoff Collins on Sunday night after the Yellow Jackets started this season 1-3.Collins finished his tenure in Atlanta, Ga., with a 10-28 overall record and 7-19 in ACC play.
However, this is not the only job O'Brien is a candidate for. He is also in the mix for the Nebraska and Arizona State head coach jobs as well.
The Mass., native has a 15-9 head coaching record in college football, as he was the head coach of Penn State for two seasons (2012-13). After his collegiate time, he spent seven seasons with the Houston Texans before being fired in 2020.
O'Brien was hired as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Alabama in January of 2021 and led the explosive Tide offense to an SEC championship and a national championship appearance.
