Crimson Tide Holds off McNeese State’s Late Comeback Attempt at Home
TUSCALOOSA—On Monday, November 11th, 2024, the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Mcneese State Cowboys 72-64 at Coleman Colesium.
Mcneese State fought hard in the first half, taking a five-point lead at 14:45 thanks to great shooting from Grant Nelson, who scored 16 points while shooting 5-8 from the field in the first half, including 2-4 from downtown and 4-4 from the charity stripe.
Mark Sears also contributed significantly to the Tide's 11-point lead before halftime, scoring 10 points and shooting a perfect 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from three.
Nate Oats' Crimson Tide led 41–30 at the half. The Tide was dominating from three-point range in the first half, with Alabama shooting 31.6% from three at the break.
Alabama dominated at the start of the second half with a barrage of threes from Latrell Wrightsell Jr., who went 4-7 from three point land in the second half, adding 12 points for the Tide, giving them a 21-point lead with Nate Oats' squad leading the Cowboys 57-36 with 14:47 left in the half.
Mcneese State made a late run to bring the Cowboys back within six points with five minutes left in regulation after the Tide failed to score for four minutes, allowing the Cowboys to go on a shooting spree, with Mcneese State guard Sincere Parker scoring nine points in that stretch.
The Crimson Tide persevered and demonstrated an outstanding performance in passing the ball and finding lanes in the post where the Tide found ways to get to the paint, resulting in the Tide making eight free throws in the final 10 minutes of the game, accounting for the majority of the Tide's points during this stretch.
Alabama is now 3-0 after the Nate Oats team won 72-64 at home on Monday. The Crimson Tide will prepare for their first away game of the season, traveling to Mackey Arena to face the #13 Purdue Boilermakers on Friday, November 15th, 2024.
