A new baseball stadium in Biloxi could draw 350,000 people or more to the downtown each year, and those kinds of numbers are spurring the anticipated attention from developers and property owners.

Jerry Creel, Biloxi's community development director, tells The Sun Herald these are properties that haven't drawn any calls in a long time.

Creel says with Friday's announcement that the Huntsville Stars AA baseball team will move to Biloxi in 2015, it seems to be an increased sense of urgency.

Biloxi Council still has to vote on a $21 million bond issue before construction can begin on the 6,000-seat stadium.

Creel says developers are considering hotels, restaurants, entertainment, assisted living and residential in the downtown, but it's too early to release any details.
