Former Alabama Defensive Back, Brandon Turnage Commits to Tennessee
Former Alabama defensive back Brandon Turnage has announced on his Instagram this week that he would change his plans and join the Tennessee Volunteers. Turnage had previously stated he was going to enroll at the University of Georgia but changed his plans after the Bulldogs acquired former Clemson cornerback Derion Kendrick.
Turnage a former 4-star corner out of Oxford, MS spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa, earning playing time in four games for the Crimson Tide. 247Sports considered him the No. 8 prospect in the state of Mississippi and the No. 11 cornerback in the class of 2019. His only statistic for the Crimson Tide came by way of a pass breakup against Mississippi State in the 2020 season.
Turnage saw time with the second unit during A-Day but ultimately opted to enter the transfer portal shortly after the conclusion of spring practice.
Turnage takes advantage of the NCAA and SEC's new transfer policy, allowing its student-athletes to transfer to a new school without losing a year of eligibility. He is one of 11 players to have entered their name in the transfer portal from the 2020-21 Crimson Tide roster. He is one of three defensive backs along with Eddie Smith and Ronald Williams.
Alabama will still have plenty of options to play corner this year highlighted by Josh Jobe and Jaylen Amour-Davis. Marcus Banks and Kool-Aid McKinstry will likely man the second team, leaving few reps for others in search of playing time.
