Former Alabama Defensive Back Released by Jaguars
Former Alabama defensive back Deionte Thompson has been released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Texas native played three seasons at the Capstone (2016-18), recording 113 total tackles (70 solo, 43 assisted), 4.5 tackles for loss for nine yards, ten passes defended, four forced fumbles, three interceptions, and one fumble recovery.
While in Tuscaloosa, he was an All-American and made the All-SEC First-Team, both in 2018.
Thompson was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals as the No. 139 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, where he stayed until he was waived on Sept. 27, 2022.
The 26-year-old saw time in 44 games with the Cardinals, recording 49 total tackles (36 solo, 13 assisted) and three passes defended.
Jacksonville picked up the former national champion in Oct. 2022 and put him on the practice squad for the remainder of last season. He signed a reserve contract earlier this year with the Jaguars.
Thompson is a former four-star recruit from the class of 2015. He ranked No. 40 nationally, No. 2 in safeties, and No. 7 in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports. He came to Tuscaloosa in the same class as Calvin Ridley, Damien Harris, and Minkah Fitzpatrick.
