Former Alabama Defensive Tackle Joins the Packers
Former Alabama defensive tackle Jarran Reed signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers after visiting the team earlier this week for a workout.
Reed will receive a base salary of $1.035 million in 2022, with a $1.865 million signing bonus. The 29-year-old's deal is team-friendly too, with four void years added to the contract that will allow his $1.865 million signing bonus to be split over five years.
Reed is a very reliable asset to the Packers in terms of availability as he has only missed eight games, two games from injury and six games from suspension, in the six years he has played in the NFL.
He was picked by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2016 draft, where he signed and played out a four year contract before signing a two-year extension with the team in 2020, but he was cut after one year of the contract. After being cut, Reed joined the Kansas City Chiefs on a one year deal last season, where he recorded 43 tackles, including two for loss, two and a half sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in 17 games with the Chiefs. With him, Kansas City's defense ranked eighth in total team defensive efficiency.
Before joining the NFL, Reed played college football at East Mississippi Community College for two years before joining Alabama in 2014. With the Crimson Tide, Reed played out the last two years of his college career, which includes winning the 2016 CFP National Championship over Clemson during his senior season.
With the number of replacements Green Bay has had to make on their defense this offseason, he has a good chance of starting for the Super Bowl contender.
