Former Alabama Offensive Tackle Produced Game-Ball Performance

Former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Cam Robinson played his first game as a Viking this past Sunday after being traded earlier in the week. Robinson only had two practices with the team before playing 73 offensive snaps at left tackle Sunday, helping the Minnesota Vikings defeat the Indianapolis Colts 21–13. Following his first game with the Vikings, Robinson was given the game ball by Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell.

Robinson performed extraordinarily well Sunday night, allowing no sacks or quarterback hits on Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold in the Vikings' 5-2 victory that halted their two-game losing skid.

Robinson spoke with the media on Thursday and made sure to mention that he has been like a "sponge" this past week, with the Offensive Tackle not even being there for a full week before making his debut with the team, with Vikings' head coach Kevin O'Connell sharing how impressed he was with the former Jaguars' Left Tackle, telling the media that "Just so much credit to him for the work he put in over 72 hours to be able to do that." Obviously, he's a veteran football player with a lot of game experience and success in this league."

Cam Robinson played for the Crimson Tide from 2014 to 2016, starting 43 games in a row and finishing his junior season as a Sports Illustrated First Team All-American. The current Vikings offensive lineman also won the Outland Trophy and contributed to the Tide's 16th National Championship in his sophomore season.

The Vikings and Kevin O'Connell acquired Robinson and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2026 conditional fifth-round pick. This move came after starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw suffered MCL and ACL injuries in the Vikings' second consecutive loss to the Los Angeles Rams on October 24th, 2024.

In the Vikings search for a replacement for Darrisaw, O'Connell, and Minnesota turned to Robinson. "There was a select group of potential players that you would even put into that category, and what I mean by that is I wanted to get a guy that was a left tackle, a guy that as he got comfortable in the system, we could, in many ways -- maybe not all the time -- but we could treat him in a way that we treated Christian Darrisaw," O'Connell said.

Robinson, who didn't get to the facility until Wednesday, was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. During his seven years in Jacksonville, the left tackle started all 91 games. In his debut season, Robinson assisted in leading the Jaguars to the AFC Championship game; however, the New England Patriots and Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady defeated Jacksonville 20–24.

Cam Robinson will face his former team this week when the Vikings play the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-7) at Everbank Stadium on Sunday, November 10th, 2024.
