Former Alabama Running Back Earns a Prestigious Honor
Former Alabama running back Najee Harris joins TJ Watt, Cameron Heyward, Miles Killebrew and Mitchell Trubisky as the 2022 captains of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"He's gonna be that guy, years down the road, you're gonna be saying Najee Harris, Steelers captain again and again and again," Heyward said.
Harris was a highly touted five-star recruit who decided to choose Alabama over Michigan and UCLA coming out of high school. In four seasons with the Crimson Tide, the two-time national champion had 3,843 rushing yards, two back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and 57 touchdowns.
Going into the 2021 draft the Steelers had no reliable running back, so they decided to use their 24th pick to select the California native. Harris rushed for 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns, while also having 467 receiving yards and three touchdowns last season.
“He talked about what we’re going to do this year,” Trubisky said. “He’s been a great teammate. He was there for me from day one. Those are the little things that leaders do on a day-to-day basis.”
With the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals emerging as threats, Harris will have to take the next step if the Steelers want any chance of capturing their seventh Super Bowl title.
