Former Alabama Wide Receiver Announces New Home
Former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Xavier Williams announced his new destination after spending time in the transfer portal. Williams will play in the Mountain West for the Utah State Aggies.
Williams missed the 2021 season with an undisclosed medical issue.
"Ziggy has some medical issues that's keeping him out," Saban said in August. "Without saying what... he's medically not going to play this year."
A former 4-star prospect out of Orlando, Florida, he appeared in 11 games for the Crimson Tide. Most notably, he made one of his three career receptions against Ohio State in the 2020 national championship.
Due to the changes in the transfer portal rules by the NCAA, Williams will be immediately eligible to play for the Aggies in 2022 if he can get medically cleared.
Utah State went 11-3 and won the Mountain West Conference in 2021. The Aggies graduated its top three wide receivers from its 2021 team and appears to be a place where Williams can contribute immediately.
The Aggies will likely return quarterback Logan Bonner for his senior season, he passed for 3,628 yards with 36 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The Tide is welcoming in three highly touted freshman receivers in Shazz Preston, Aaron Anderson and Kobe Prentice and it remains to be seen if junior John Metchie III will return for his senior year.
Alabama will likely lose several players in the transfer portal in the offseason. The Tide's next appearance will be on Monday night in the national championship against the Georgia Bulldogs.
