Fouts Earns Third SEC Pitcher of the Week Award This Season
Montana Fouts has been named the SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week; the league announced Tuesday. This is her third time winning the recognition this season and the fourth of her career.
The junior appeared in all three games this past week. She pitched a complete-game win and closed out two games to add two saves to her resume.
Fouts was brought in to get the final out of the game on Wednesday’s midweek game against Southern Mississippi. Alabama won 6-3 and Fouts received her second save of the year.
The Grayson, KY., native pitched a complete-game win in the first game of the two-game series against Louisiana. Fouts struck out 11 batters and threw four three-up-three-down innings in game one to get a 5-3 win over the Ragin’ Cajuns.
By throwing 11 strike outs in game one, Fouts reached her sixth game with 10 or more strikeouts, all of which were against ranked opponents.
Fouts closed out the final game of the Louisiana series with a 3.0 inning save. She retired nine straight batters after giving up a hit and recorded four strikeouts to bring Alabama to a 5-1 win to sweep the series.
She currently ranks second in the SEC with a total of 196 strikeouts on the season behind Tenessee’s Ashley Rogers. Fouts has caught 32 batters looking and currently ranks sixth in that category.
So far this season Fouts has pitched 128 innings and has a record of 15-3 for the season. Her current ERA is 1.70.
Fouts and her team will be traveling to Athens, GA this weekend to play the Georgia Bulldogs. Alabama begins its series on Friday, April 30 at 5 p.m. CT.
