In the first at-bat of her college career, Alabama softball freshman Megan Bloodworth stepped up to the plate and delivered a grand slam for the Crimson Tide. Bloodworth followed this up with a solo home run in her next at-bat.

Bloodworth credited her success to her teammates.

“They just pitch in and I think that’s what allowed me to hit the home run,” said Bloodworth. “They were telling me what they saw, so it was almost like I already had an at-bat.”

Bloodworth finished the successful opening weekend in Tucson with a .600 batting average, 3 home runs, and 7 RBIs.

Bloodworth will get her first taste of the Rhoads house this weekend as Alabama hosts the Easton Bama Bash.

“I’m so excited. It’s just going to be something that I’ve looked forward to for a while, just being able to play in front of the awesome fans and everything on this field,” said Bloodworth.

Even though there is lots of hype surrounding Bloodworth after her stellar performance last weekend, the freshman is not letting it get to her.

“I’m trying not to pay attention to what’s on twitter or Instagram or any type of social media, so I just really listen to what my team tells me and the coaching staff,” said Bloodworth.

Alabama opens the Easton Bama Bash against Evansville on Friday, Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m. CT.
