The College Football Playoffs Semifinals are set to take place on New Years Eve in Dallas and Miami respectively. According to Anthony Dasher of UGAsports.com Bulldogs backup quarterback JT Daniels has tested positive for COVID-19.
Daniels, according to Dasher is the only Georgia player to have a positive test with 10 days to play until the Bulldogs take on the Michigan Wolverines in the Capitol One Orange Bowl.
Daniels started three games for Kirby Smart's team in 2021 passing for 722 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception. Smart has largely opted to lean on senior Stetson Bennett on its way to an SEC East crown and a birth in the College Football Playoffs.
Bennett has passed for 2,325 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Additionally, the former walk-on has rushed for 251 yards and a touchdown.
Daniels will likely be back for Georgia prior to the Bulldogs trip to Miami, however the California-native is currently in quarantine. Georgia only tests its players if they are unvaccinated or are symptomatic. According to reports Daniels is vaccinated and only has mild symptoms.
Freshmen Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff are the only other quarterbacks who have taken snaps for Georgia in 2021. Beck in three games, passing for 23 yards and Vandagriff in one game.
