Georgia Wide Receiver Jermaine Burton Seeks Transfer, Alabama Top Choice
Georgia sophomore wide receiver Jermaine Burton has entered the transfer portal, he becomes the latest Georgia Bulldog to enter the transfer portal following the team's first national championship since 1980.
Coming into the season Burton was supposed to be the number one option for quarterback Stetson Bennett however a knee injury in spring training prohibited him from reaching his full potential as well as the emergence of freshman Ladd McConkey and Brock Bowers left him with fewer targets than what he wanted. This is the third receiver the bulldogs have lost in the last week
Burton ended his freshmen campaign with 27 receptions, 404 yards, and three touchdowns. Whereas he finished his second season with 26 receptions, 497 yards and only 5 touchdowns. After the departure of his position coach at Georgia, Cortez Hankton, and the Bulldogs offensive coordinator, James Cooley, Burton is looking to take his talents elsewhere.
Burton's top three choices are reportedly Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. The former 4-star receiver out of California, sharing a similar body type to that of John Metchie, has a chance to be an instant impact player for Alabama. The Tide suffered major loss at the position, seeing the likes of Jameson Williams, Metchie and Slade Bolden take their talents to the NFL, and Jahleel Billingsley to Texas.
Burton is expected to make a decision about his future in the coming days.
