Gordo Claims Area Championship with Dominant 36-Point Win
Gordo dominated in its final game of the regular season, thanks to its high-powered offense, scoring 61 points led by its two-quarterback system, which combined for five touchdowns in a 36-point victory over Carbon Hill on Friday. Gordo also secured an Area championship with tonight's win.

The Greenwave started this game out forcing the Bulldogs to a three-and-out on their first offensive possession, which saw Gordo's offense immediately answer with a five-play 45-yard drive, which was capped off by an eight-yard rushing touchdown by one of the Greenwave's Senior quarterback, Makain Robertson, to make it a 7-0 game following the successful PAT with 8:34 left in the first quarter.
Gordo's offense managed to get on the board two more times in the first quarter, thanks to a 60-yard rushing touchdown from Greenwave's senior wide receiver, AJ Latham, and a beautiful 25-yard touchdown pass from Senior quarterback Ryder Robertson to Senior tight end Kayden Brock to make it a 21-0 game going into the second quarter.
The second quarter mirrored the first, although Carbon Hill experienced some success on offense, scoring three touchdowns. All three touchdowns were thrown by the Bulldogs' junior quarterback, Dayton Miller. He delivered two 65-yard touchdown passes to junior wide receiver Micheal Baker and one pass to junior wide receiver Carter Williams with just 13 seconds left in the half. Despite these efforts, the Bulldogs ended the half with 18 points, having missed two PATs (point-after-touchdown attempts) and one two-point conversion.
Unfortunately for Carbon Hill, this did little to reduce Gordo's lead, which grew to 30 points by the end of the half. The Greenwave offense put on an impressive performance, scoring 27 points in the second quarter. Latham recorded his second rushing touchdown of the night with a 41-yard run, while Ryder Robertson added his second touchdown as well, converting a one-yard quarterback sneak. Makain Robertson, the other starting quarterback for the Greenwave, capped off the scoring with a 45-yard rushing touchdown and also returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown, achieving a hat trick. As a result, Gordo held a 48-18 advantage at halftime.
The second half saw the Greenwave take out their starters and still manage to run the score up with Gordo adding two more touchdowns in the second half to make the final score in this one 61-25 in this offensive masterclass by the Greenwave, who didn't punt once during this entire contest.
Gordo improved to 8-1 with tonight's victory, concluding a successful season. Winfield's win over Vinemont on Friday secured Gordo the title of Area Champions in Region 5 for 3A. The Greenwave will have a bye next Friday as the rest of the AHSAA completes its final regular-season games. Gordo will host the first round of the playoffs, which kicks off on the first Friday of November.
