It was only a matter of time before COVID-19 reared its ugly head within the SEC schedule. The SEC announced Tuesday afternoon that the Alabama vs LSU matchup would be postponed, much to the frustration of Alabama fans in Tuscaloosa. There is much more at stake here than just a game, however, as Mac Jones has been a favorite for the Heisman trophy.

Does this cancellation mean that the Heisman trophy hopes of Alabama starting quarterback Mac Jones are over? No, it isn't.

Mac Jones is not the only player who has missed time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence missed the last two games, including a stunning upset to Notre Dame in double overtime last Saturday night. This cancellation for both Jones and Lawrence could help to elevate Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. With less games in the Big-10, that could also help Jones also.

Alabama, while not playing this week, have a leader at the quarterback position who could make a strong case for the Heisman trophy. Sadly, while LSU may not have had a chance in the actual game, LSU may have cost Mac Jones a Heisman trophy.
