High School Football Week One Recap
An exciting start to the high school football season in Tuscaloosa County as week one started on Thursday night with Tuscaloosa Academy and American Christian Academy. Holy Spirit and Verbena also played Thursday night.
ACA @ Tuscaloosa Academy
The private schools of Tuscaloosa County faced each other for the first game of the season. A difficult start for the ACA Patriots as they come out throwing an interception, giving Tuscaloosa Academy a chance to drive downfield and score. Tuscaloosa Academy holds a significant lead over ACA going into half-time led by their star quarterback Preston Lancaster.
Tuscaloosa Academy continues to dominate in the second half pulling out the win against ACA, 38-24.
Verbena @ Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit started their season with a disappointing loss to Verbena at home with a score of 30-12. Holy Spirit had a less-than-ideal season last year ending at 2-8, losing 7 in a row with their only two wins against Brilliant, and Sumiton County. The Holy Spirit Saints will take on The Holt Ironmen at home next Friday.
Central @ Tuscaloosa County
The game of the week for WVUA23 and Tide100.9, the Central Falcons played at Tuscaloosa County Friday night leaving the wildcats with their first loss of the season under new Head Coach, Miles Holcomb. An exciting game as it went down to the wire with a game-winning field goal from Central. Demario Pippen and the Falcons take home their first win of the season in a much-anticipated game. The ending score was 31-28.
The Falcons take on Calera at home next Friday while the Wildcats travel to Mobile County to take on Vigor High School.
Jasper @ Brookwood
The Panthers are in their new stadium for the first time as they take on the Jasper High School Vikings. A lopsided game as the Jasper Vikings overwhelms the Brookwood Panthers for a 48-7 win on Friday night.
The Panthers will travel to Bibb County to play the West Blocton Tigers next Friday.
West Blocton @ Northside
The first half looked very promising for the Tigers as they entered the lead 19-14 entering halftime. Coach Jones rallied the Rams during halftime to come back and win the game 35-33 over the West Blocton Tigers. The Rams travel away to Cordova to take on the Blue Devils next Friday.
Florence @ Hillcrest
The Hillcrest Patriots made an impressive game Friday against the Florence Falcons as quarterback Bryson Kimbrough threw for over 150 yards with a touchdown pass to Jordan Chambers who had over 50 yards receiving. Kimbrough had 1 touchdown through the air and one on the ground as the Hillcrest Patriots won their first game as a 7a team.
