A fan-favorite, old-school Crimson Tide logo is returning on the University of Alabama's new license plate design, available at state offices starting in June.

For years, the Capstone has designed license plates that drivers can buy to fund scholarships for in-state students at Alabama. In a Thursday press release, a UA spokeswoman said the initiative sold more than 120,000 vehicle and motorcycle tags last year alone, generating over $5 million for undergraduate and graduate program scholarships.

The Bama plates will now feature a fresh look, but one that hearkens back to the Tide's storied history.

These plates will boast the classic 'Vault A' Alabama logo, which was introduced in 1973 and retired in 1998 for the Script A.

A school spokesperson said the vintage logo is surging in popularity among coaches, players, students, alumni, and fans for its classic style, and adding it to the tags embraces that.

“The new design is a great way for alumni and friends to show their school spirit while helping students reach their goals,” said Jimmy Warren, executive director of the UA National Alumni Association.

In the press release, the University said the new license plates featuring the old logo will be available next week.

"Individuals with the current UA tag can renew to the new design tag starting June 1. Tags will be available at local county license offices June 2," the University said. "Both numbered and personalized tags are available; the cost is $50 above the normal tag cost. Collegiate tags may be purchased at any time, regardless of an individual’s tag renewal month."
