The University of Alabama has confirmed President Donald Trump's Monday announcement that he will give a commencement speech to graduating seniors in Tuscaloosa next month.

As is his style, Trump shared the news on his Truth Social platform late Monday night and the University did not confirm the plans for more than 12 hours, but on Tuesday afternoon said the President will speak in Coleman Coliseum on Thursday, May 1st.

"The University of Alabama is honored to have been selected as one of the universities President Donald J. Trump will visit to deliver a spring commencement address," the Capstone said. "This ticketed event will be held the evening of Thursday, May 1, at Coleman Coliseum and will be open to all spring 2025 graduates."

As with Trump's other visits to Tuscaloosa, there will be enhanced security and other preparatory steps taken before his address in two weeks.

"Campus logistics and security measures are being carefully coordinated, and ticketing information for graduates and other event details will be communicated in the coming days," UA said in their statement. "We look forward to celebrating our graduates throughout commencement weekend as we confer degrees to thousands of hardworking students who will go on to make a positive impact in the workforce and in communities across Alabama, our nation and the world."

The University of Alabama has leaned away from commencement speeches since a controversial criticism of the war in Iraq led to their 2007 guest speaker, James T. Stephens, getting booed off the stage, according to contemporary reporting from the Crimson White.

That would made Trump UA's first speaker in almost 20 years.
