Hubbard Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watchlist

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Veteran Alabama defensive back Bray Hubbard has been named to the Danny Wuerffel Trophy Watchlist, according to a release by the University of Alabama on Tuesday.

The Wuerffel Trophy is widely regarded as college football's premier award for community service, with Hubbard being one of 113 student-athletes named to the watchlist on Tuesday morning. Named after the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback at Florida, Danny Wuerffel, who turned his success on the field into a lifelong mission of service, the Wuerffel Trophy reflects his legacy of leadership and humanitarianism.

Bray Hubbard is one of the top contributors to Kane Wommack's defense for the Crimson Tide, but his service to Tuscaloosa goes beyond the football field. He regularly visits local elementary schools in the community, participates in the Read Across America initiative in Tuscaloosa County Schools, is a regular speaker at the Tuscaloosa Juvenile Detention Center, took part in Night to Shine (put on by the Tim Tebow Foundation), volunteers at the West Alabama Food Bank, is an annual participant in Alabama's 'Halloween Extravaganza', and commits time to CrossingPoints, a campus-wide organization that provides services for students with diabilities aged 18-21.

Barrett Jones is the lone winner in Alabama history, taking home the Wuerffel Trophy in 2011.
