The hottest topic of conversation heading into the 2014 for the Alabama Crimson Tide is who will win the starting quarterback position.

Maybe the question we should be asking is, 'Does it matter?"

Bo Bounds, host of Out of Bounds on 105.9 The Zone in Jackson, Mississippi, joined Houston and Huber this morning and talked about the talent surrounding the quarterback at Alabama, saying that it doesn't matter who takes the snaps.

"Bama has the best talent, and they have the best coaching," Bounds told host Baron Huber. "And we're making way too much of Jacob Coker, or - look, it doesn't matter if it's Bill Smith at quarterback, or they could grab an SAE on the way to Bryant-Denny for the first four games of the year as far as quarterback".

Alabama's first four games are against West Virginia in Atlanta, then at home against Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss and Florida.

To Bounds' point, does it truly matter who the quarterback is for Nick Saban's team? In Alabama's 2009 and 2011 national championship seasons, the Crimson Tide had the number one overall defense. In 2012, the unit ranked second in the nation.

On offense, the Tide also had a rushing attack that finished in the top 20 nationally during all three championship seasons, while the passing attack did not finish in the top 25 in any of those years. The quarterbacks to raise the crystal ball were Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron, who were drafted in the seventh and fifth rounds of the NFL draft, respectively.

So does it really matter if it's Jacob Coker or Blake Sims taking the snaps this fall? With all of the talent surrounding the position from the number 1 recruiting classes, it's hard to think so.
